I am very excited to announce the Quackademy online container. The term ‘Quack’, now used in a derogatory fashion to describe a charlatan physician, originally referred simply to a country doctor or healer; someone who operated in a community-based setting, and often in defiance of the controlling powers of the time.

This course seeks to restore the proud practice of Quackery by re-empowering practitioners or healers of any kind with the ineffable, difficult-to-describe, subtle and non-material aspects of healing that are such a powerful felt aspect of medical practice.

In a world dominated by a population-based and industrialised systems of medical care, Quackery offers an alternative rooted in indigenous tradition. It is personalised, anecdotal, seasonal. It honours the role of Time, Faith and Agency in healing, seeks to connect us with Ritual, Myth and Place and seeks to undermine the concept of the doctor / practitioner as being the primary agent of change in healing.

This container is for anyone who finds themselves in the role of the Quack / advisor / healer / space holder, whether for themselves or for others. It is for anyone who senses a knocking on the door of their hut or hears words in the wind that blows through the woods. We will work with identifying these patterns both within individuals and within societies. We will explore how to foster the connection between Nature and Civilisation and the challenges and benefits of straddling both these worlds.
